What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are used for facial aesthetic treatments and are injected into the skin. They are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, contour and create volume, and to revitalize the skin. Some fillers can be used together to treat different areas of the face. You may need one filler for wrinkles around the eyes, and another for adding volume to deeper wrinkles or lips. Dermal fillers usually induce and stimulate collagen production under the skin, so they also act as a preventative for future wrinkles. Individual results may vary in each patient. These treatments are offered in our office located in Langhorne, PA.
Juvéderm is an FDA approved dermal filler uniquely formulated to temporarily decrease the evidence of smile lines, vertical lines, and marionette lines on the face. The filler is composed of hyaluronic acid (HA) that has been chemically bonded using Hylacross™. HA is something that our bodies produce naturally, so it is perfectly safe to use for this treatment.*
How does Juvéderm work?
Juvederm treatments are only available through healthcare professionals who are trained and experienced in dermal filler injections. The treatments are given in an office setting, where a healthcare professional guides a very fine needle below the epidermis and into the connective tissues within the dermal area of the face where deep lines and folds develop. There, the gel works like a sponge within the skin, where it also absorbs water, giving you a more youthful appearance.*
Juvéderm contains a pain-numbing lidocaine anesthetic, which keeps patient discomfort at a minimum. It’s truly made with the patient in mind. In most cases, Juvédermtreatments are performed in just minutes and require little or no down time. Cosmetic results are instantaneous, and the younger appearance achieved in a single Juvéderm treatment can last up to one year, after which time the body safely absorbs the biocompatible gel. Individual results may vary in each patient.
Is Juvéderm Right for You?
All Juvéderm injections are non-surgical and tailored to each patient’s needs and desired results. Even if you are a person of color, the FDA considers Juvéderm to be the first safe and effective way of improving the cosmetic appearance of smile lines without increasing the risk of hyper-pigmentation or hypertrophic scarring.*
Side effects are typically mild and short lived. Some common side effects that you might experience include redness, soreness, discomfort, itchiness, slight discoloration, and swelling. You shouldn’t observe these effects for more than a week. If you believe that you are experiencing more serious effects, such as difficulty breathing, excessive bleeding days after the treatment, or perhaps an allergic reaction, don’t hesitate to contact your healthcare provider right away.
*Juvéderm is the number one dermal filler in the United States today, but only a healthcare professional experienced in dermal fillers can determine whether it is right for you. Individual results will vary from patient to patient, so a one-on-one consultation can give you a better understanding of the type of results you can expect following a treatment.
